Luminox has been constantly revamping its production processes to help do our part for environmental sustainability. This includes partnering with a Swiss company to collect plastic and waste from the ocean and using those materials to create the #TIDE series of watches.

The New ECO Tide 8900 Series uses 100% recycled material for the case, strap, and bezel. The case, bezel and strap are all manufactured with #TIDE material. It uses a Swiss Made precision quartz movement, equipped with the Luminox Light Technology, meaning that it is visible in any conditions without having to be charged by an external source.

The straps for the 8900 series are also made from the #TIDE material, and the cases are available in grey or blue. The grey case features a blue wave textured dial and matching blue #TIDE strap, while the blue case version has a grey wave textured dial and matching grey #TIDE strap. The dial of both models feature the three R’s icon at 6 o’clock: “Reduce Reuse Recycle”.

#TIDE Materials

#TIDE ocean materials are made from 100% ocean-bound plastic, developed in partnership with Swiss scientists. On five islands in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Thailand, local fishermen are being trained and paid to gather and sort plastic waste.

The #TIDE material starts out as this collected plastic waste, which is then broken down by a sophisticated sustainable process to its base particles. These are treated, cleaned, and then shredded so that they can be injected, just like the original plastic it once was. In this way, Luminox reuses this material, reduces the impact on the planet, and helps to clean up the ocean, while also helping these indigenous people learn a new skill and make a regular income.

Sustainability has been on Luminox’s radar for a while, and its parent company, Mondaine Watch Ltd., is one of the world’s first carbon-neutral watch companies. Since 2020, all Mondaine brands, including Luminox, operate with net-zero carbon emissions. The Mondaine Group uses solar power and eco-friendly materials in its production processes and is renowned for its innovation, including in the environmental field. In addition, a proportion of the company's revenue is donated to social and environmental non-profit organizations, such as Fairventures Worldwide.

Partnering with #TIDE is another step in the sustainable direction for Luminox. In the event space, this year Luminox will be participating in several Global Beach Clean Up programs. Partnering with local organizations, Luminox will provide #TIDE material clean-up bags for volunteers to use while cleaning up beaches around the world.
