About Luminox Code Red Survival Course Station 3

Luminox Code Red Participant and MISAR Volunteers Work Together

The third station of the Luminox Code Red Survival Course simulated a rubble situation. We were taught extrication skills to rescue victims from a dangerous situation. This meant that participants had to deal hands-on with heavy duty equipment such as chainsaws, metal cutter and rock drill. These equipment were often used during the missions by MISAR when victims were trapped. , It helped to deform the heavy or bulky structures and allowed for the safe removal of the victims in rescue missions.

Luminox Code Red Participant Operating Heavy Equipment
One lesson that I learnt was to have a decisive mind during extrication to minimize injury to the victims. This was especially so when each equipment weighed at least 4kg which proved to be exhausting to operate after a period of time. . In another instance, my team mates and I were tasked to cut a metal rod and instructed to tilt the tool at an angle of 70 degrees in order to prevent flying pieces of metal that could be dangerous.

In my opinion, handling these equipment’s in a controlled environment like the Luminox Code Red Survival Course was a dream come true. I could only imagine how proficient and well trained a MISAR Code Red rescuer would have to be at handling these tools while adapting to any situation.

Luminox is a proud supporter of the Navy SEAL foundation, Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE SAR) and Malaysian International Search and Rescue (MISAR)
