Luminox named the Official Partner of The Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR)

Luminox has a long history of working with heroes. The Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR) motto is: Devotion, Professionalism and Leadership, qualities that ring a bell to Luminox’s long standing association with the Navy SEALs. ICE-SAR was founded in 1928 due to Iceland’s extreme weather conditions and lack of a professional army. The first group of volunteers created this proud tradition and today, ICE-SAR has 93 teams and a force of over 8,000 volunteers, passionately driving accident prevention and Search and Rescue programs in Iceland to battle with Mother Nature.

Widely known as “The Land of Fire and Ice”, Iceland is home to some of the largest glaciers in Europe and the world’s most active volcanoes. The barren island is located in the North Atlantic Ocean that is plagued for volatile arctic winds and freezing winters. The country’s constant exposure to the harsh forces of nature has meant that lives have been sacrificed at land and sea. Other extreme weather conditions include long summer days with near 24-hours of sunshine which are offset by short winter days with barely any hours of daylight. Avalanches, shipwrecks, storms, eruptions, earthquakes and sub-zero winters have forged a strong force of volunteers from a small Icelandic population of 330,000 that dedicate their time at any moment to help their fellow citizens and foreign visitors. All volunteers are Search and Rescue experts who receive an 18 months training before they can go on their first mission. Luminox is now proud to be the Official Partner of The Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue and be associated with this group of heroes.

During a search and rescue mission, time is of the essence as it is a matter of life and death. Freezing weather conditions means that modern day equipment cannot function as well due to battery drainage. Coupled with the need to carry heavy equipment, rescuers require a watch that is tough and provides a quick glance of the time in any light conditions. Luminox watches are designed and produced to go to these extreme places with the volunteers of ICE-SAR. Celebrating its 90th year this year, ICE-SAR has named Luminox as its Official Partner and to commemorate this partnership, Luminox has created a special ICE-SAR Arctic 1000 Series, which is made up of five models, with one being a limited edition.

The limited edition timepiece is limited to 900 pieces worldwide. It uses the blue and red color scheme of ICE-SAR and all the watches are individually numbered on the caseback that also feature the ICE-SAR logo. At the nine o’clock, the index has been replaced with ‘90 years’ and the ICE-SAR logo is placed at six o’clock while ‘112’ replaces the number twelve.
